Need Water Line Repair in Houston? We’ll Get Your Water Flowing Again — Fast

Every home and commercial plumbing installation is made of a series of “water lines”. Some are supply lines, used to bring fresh water in from a city connection or a well; others are waste lines, designed to pump “gray” (contaminated) wastewater out of your home or business.

What all these plumbing lines have in common is that someday, they’re likely going to need repair. Whether you’re coming home from a game at Daikin Park, or spending a sunny day at Lake Houston, the last thing you want to deal with is a failing water line. When that time comes, our plumbing experts are here to help. We provide professional water line repair across Houston and surrounding areas to keep your system flowing smoothly when you need it most.

Common Signs Your Water Line Is Damaged

Recognizing the signs that your water line needs repair enables you to address the issue promptly, preventing further damage to your home and system. If you notice any of the following telltale red flags that something’s wrong with your water lines, contact our team as soon as possible:

  • Reduced water pressure: Lower water pressure is often due to a supply line leak restricting flow
  • Wet areas throughout your home: Damp floors, sheetrock, and ceilings could be indicative of a leaky drain line or sewer main.
  • Soggy spots in your yard: Sinkholes and ponding water in your yard can be a sign of either supply or sewer water leakage under your foundation.
  • Musty odors: Hidden water leaks can cause mold and mildew to grow inside your home, causing musty and unpleasant smells.
  • Rising water bills: Leaks in your line result in water waste, causing your monthly water bills to seemingly rise without reason.

What Causes Water Line Leaks or Breaks?

From weather changes to aging systems, several factors can lead to water line leaks or breaks. Some of the most common culprits we see in Houston include:

  • Age and corrosion: Pipes nearing the end of their 20- to 100-year lifespan are more susceptible to corrosion, which weakens the structure and can lead to cracks or leaks.
  • Temperature fluctuations: Extreme temperature changes can cause pipes to contract and expand, potentially leading to breaks.
  • Tree roots: As tree roots search for water underground, they can make their way into your pipes and cause them to rupture.
  • Water pressure: High water pressure can put excess stress on your pipes, eventually leading to bursts or cracks.
  • Clogs and blockages: When debris, mineral deposits, or grease build up in your pipes, they can cause pressure to rise inside the line, leading to breaks or leaks.

Drip…drip…drip…

You know that sound. It’s the one you wake up to at 3:30 am, and it keeps you awake until the alarm goes off. Throughout your day, the drip doesn’t even cross your mind until your day is over, and you start to settle in to relax for the night, and…there it is AGAIN!

If you’re reading this at 3:35 am, grab a towel and throw it under the faucet for now. Get some sleep. Now call Nick’s Plumbing Service as soon as you wake up and let us have a look at that annoying leak.

Where Is My Water Leak Hiding?

While faucet leaks make their presence well known by being intrusive and annoying, we never hear our water leaks, as most occur behind your walls, inside cabinets, and underneath floorboards. These hidden leaks will make themselves evident in due time, often with symptoms that will include water stained walls or ceilings, damp carpets, mildew and mold growth, and even complete collapse of wooden foundations.

Every year, the highest single cost to insurance company revenues is water damage caused by leaking pipes in Houston. A small pinhole leak in a copper supply pipe in your wall can cause thousands of dollars’ worth of damage in a frighteningly short time. At the first sign of a water supply leak, you need to shut off the main water supply to your home BEFORE you reach out to a professional plumbing company.

If you don’t know how to turn off the main water supply to your home, we’ve got a handy “do-it-yourself” blog on this very subject on our website.

What Are Some Other Signs I Have a Water Leak?

Watch out for diminished water pressure from sinks and showers, as it can be a sign of leaking supply lines that could empty several gallons of water per hour into your walls. When symptoms like wet or damp drywall and flooring, strange odors, or reduced water pressure occur, the homeowner should notice.

Where Can I Be on The Lookout for Leaks?

Bathrooms:

Worn flappers, fill valves, and other parts inside of your toilet suffer from daily wear and tear of usage. Leaks can develop between the tank flapper seal and the bowl, causing water to run out of the tank continually. If a toilet tank is leaking, you’ll usually hear a “hissing” sound along with it. If you’re unsure of a toilet tank leak, place a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tank. If the water in the bowl begins to change color, you’ve confirmed a tank leak.

Broken toilet flanges will cause raw sewage to leak into your floorboards, usually indicated by a rocking toilet, or brown water leaks that appear around the base of the toilet. Don’t just mop up this mess and ignore it, as it is wastewater, and its presence is unhealthy to both your family and your home.

Kitchens:

Copper water supply lines can develop pinhole leaks, and when hidden beneath a sink or in a cabinet, they can go undetected for days. Regularly check supply lines beneath all the sinks in your home and the drainpipes, for any signs of condensation or dripping water. Inspect the bottom of the kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities for signs of leaks like warped or damp wood.

Around Water Heaters:

Your tank-type water heater has a life expectancy of between seven and ten years. As your water heater gets older, internal parts like anode rods, heating elements, and thermostats begin to break down, requiring periodic replacement. Without proper maintenance, your water heater can start to rust from the inside, eventually causing leaks at the tank’s seam. Once a water heater tank has begun to leak, the only repair option is to replace it.

Foundations:

Water supply and sewer lines are commonly run beneath your concrete slab, an area where leaks can cause catastrophic damage to your home. Foundation leaks can create sinkholes under your home, causing your home to shift, creating cracks in walls, sagging floors, and causing doors to stick in their frames. Keeping an eye out for soggy areas of the lawn, or especially lush sections, will alert you to possible sewer line leaks.

Sewer Line Leaks:

Sewer lines pose a significant risk for water leaks, as most of their length is underground, making it difficult to impossible to locate leaks visually. The only way to accurately detect a sewer line leak is to perform a video inspection of the sewer line, which often reveals leaks, breakage, and even complete blockages.

Water leaks won’t repair themselves; that’s why the experts at Nick’s Plumbing Service have been plugging Houston’s leaks since 1979. Eventually, every home is going to experience some form of a plumbing leak; it’s kind of an unofficial rule of the universe. Regardless of the cause of your leak, the experts at Nick’s Plumbing Service are ready to take care of it

Professional Hydrostatic Water Leak Detection Testing in Houston

There are few plumbing issues as devastating and costly as a drain or sewer line leak that is left undiscovered. Broken drain lines, especially those in upper floor bathrooms, create leaks that can cause water damage to beams, drywall, insulation, and electrical wiring. Broken sewer lines generate wastewater that goes into your drains and toilets to seep into the soil beneath your yard. To that end, the typical first sign of a sewer line leak is a soggy area of your yard or an extraordinarily green and lush section of the lawn.

Foundations, walls, and ceilings can all be affected by a sewer line leak, and once the structural integrity of your home is compromised, it can be expensive to repair. Leaking sewer lines can cause the soil that your home sits on to shift, which results in cracks in your foundation. Once the foundation of your home has shifted, it’s a short ride to cracks in drywall, in ceilings, and hardwood floors.

What is Hydrostatic Water Leak Detection?

While it sounds like extremely complicated plumbing techno-speak, hydrostatic means “still water,” or water that doesn’t move. Hydrostatic testing is performed by filling (pressurizing) the vessel or piping being examined and subsequently monitoring the pressurization level for changes. If there is a lowering of pressure, there is a leak somewhere in the system. If you suspect a plumbing leak in your home, hydrostatic testing must determine the presence of a leak under your slab.

How Does Hydrostatic Testing Apply to My Plumbing System?

For the first phase of hydrostatic testing on a home or commercial plumbing system, a toilet is removed on the first floor. An inflatable ball is pushed into the drainpipe to block the entire plumbing system for about half an hour. The water level at the removed toilet is monitored throughout the test, and if the water level drops, there are leaks in the system. If the water level remains consistent, there are no leaks.

When a leak is detected, the next step is referred to as isolation testing. This is a process where separate sections of the plumbing system are blocked off and tested individually in the same manner as with the whole house test, just on a smaller scale. Isolation testing allows the plumbing technicians to narrow down and locate the area of the leak.

Once the leaks are located, a full schematic of your plumbing system is drawn up, and a solution is engineered. Drain system leak repairs in Houston can be as simple as replacing a single section of pipe, to a complete redirecting of your drainage system.

If you are considering purchasing a home having this test performed is a must. In many instances, the current owner of the house is unaware of any plumbing leaks, and this test will allow them to fix it before the sale. If you have recently leveled your home’s foundation, the hyperextension of your home’s pipes can cause leaks to appear in the fittings and couplings.

How Do You Know You Have A Water Leak?

The visible signs that you may have a severe plumbing leak include finding standing water, stained and mildewed ceilings, or even a dripping sound from behind a wall. These are all signs that you need to call a professional plumber like Nick’s Plumbing to inspect your pipes and suggest the proper repairs. But what about the leaks that are not so obvious. These types of leaks can be the most damaging to your home and property, especially if they go unnoticed for an extended time.

If you feel your home’s water pressure has dropped or you notice an unwarranted increase in your monthly water bill, you may have a leak that has gone undetected. These leaks are mostly found in places like the connection between your water meter and home, as well as under slab leaks from your hot and cold-water pipes. If this happens, the best form of leak detection is called hydrostatic pressure testing.

How Do You Find a Leak Underneath a Slab?

Once we determine that you have a likely under-slab leak, based on the appearance of the symptoms we listed, along with a visual diagnosis by one of our trained and licensed plumbing technicians, the next step is to determine precisely where the leak is.

At Nick’s Plumbing Service, we employ a couple of different methods for detecting slab leaks. We use specialized snake cameras that reveal a high-definition view of your drain and sewer lines from the inside. After the inspection, inflatable rubber bladders are used to block specific areas of your plumbing system to facilitate isolation testing of each section of your sewer and drain lines.

Supply line leaks under your slab are particularly problematic, as the water supply lines are under constant pressure and have water flowing through them all times. A supply line leak will make itself apparent much faster than a sewer line leak, as the pressurized water can wipe out the soil under your home at lightning speed.

Why Choose Nick’s Plumbing Service for My Hydrostatic Test?

Nick’s Plumbing have been performing both commercial and residential hydrostatic testing for two decades. We have a proven track record for the engineering and resolution of plumbing leaks that dates to 1979. We back our work with a ten-year warranty, which is among the best in the industry.

Running, Leaking and Clogged Toilet Repair in Houston

The worst thing you can do when facing issues that require professional toilet repair is to ignore them. That running toilet you have wastes as much as 200 gallons of water per day, or around 6,000 gallons a month. In Houston, that much extra water adds as much as $65 to your monthly water bill. Would you believe that an inexpensive rubber disc could fix that issue? Or a simple adjustment of a rubber float in the tank?

The parts that make a toilet able to flush are simple and inexpensive. Knowing how to install those parts and make them align properly and function is priceless. Just kidding, it has a price. But probably nowhere nearly as high as you might imagine.

Homeowners instinctively get nervous when it’s time to call in any home service professional, especially plumbers. Add to that anxiety the symptoms of an ailing toilet, like clogging and overflowing, paired with the gurgling and hissing noises they make can cause on their own. It’s no surprise folks panic when a toilet kicks up a fuss.

Nick’s Plumbing has been providing toilet repair services in Houston since 1979, so it’s safe to say we’ve gotten pretty good at it. Our trained, background-checked, licensed plumbers are ready to repair your leaky, running or clogged toilet, snake your shower drain, or help with other plumbing needs.

What are the Signs I Need Toilet Repair?

Toilet problems have no problem letting you know they’ve arrived, announcing their presence with gurgling noises, incomplete flushes, and that constant running water sound in the tank that drives you crazy at night. When the sun comes up, call Nick’s Plumbing, your local toilet repair professionals in Houston, if you wake up to any of the following toilet troubles:

  • Leaking or Running Toilet
  • Toilet Doesn’t Flush Completely –Or Won’t Flush at All
  • Water Puddles Beneath Toilet Tank
  • Constant Sound of Running Water (Hissing)
  • Loose Flush Handle
  •  Water Around the Base of the Toilet
  • Toilet Rocks from Side to Side

Nick’s Plumbing Toilet Repair Services in Houston Include:

Listen, everybody has a friend that’s a “handyman,” and he can fix a leaky toilet or a clogged toilet drain for just $20 and a six-pack. Consider what that $20 will cost you in the long run. While many toilet problems require a simple fix that a crafty homeowner can accomplish, you will need the trained eye of a professional plumber for the following toilet repairs:

Unclog Toilets

Simple clogs can be cleared with a plunger or hand-operated drain snake. Deeper, denser clogs will require a powered drain snake or hydro-jetting service to restore proper flow.

Stop Under Tank Puddles

Often the result of a worn water supply valve or a loose flex hose between the valve and connection at the toilet tank.

Repair a Running Toilet

You better catch it before it gets away. I know. It wasn’t funny in 2nd grade, either. Regardless, this could be caused by a couple of issues; a worn tank flapper allows water to constantly escape the tank, causing the hissing sound. Mis-adjusted floats can allow your tank to overfill, sending the excess water into the bowl via the overflow tube. Repairing a running toilet will help significantly lower your water bill.

Tighten Up the Handle

In an older toilet handle, a small plastic tab that holds the faucet upright can wear out or snap off. There’s no fix for this issue; we’ll need to replace the handle for this leaky toilet repair.

Replace Toilet Flange and Wax Ring

The flange is a wide opening at the bottom of the toilet that lines up with the beginning of your home’s sewer line. The two bolts on either side of your toilet connect the flange to the sewer lines and cinch it down. Inside this pipe joint is a wax ring that fits around the opening of the sewer line to prevent water or odor leakage.

Let Nick’s Plumbing Help Get You Back on the Throne!

Having a toilet out of service is more than an inconvenience; in a single-bathroom home, it can quickly become a health hazard. Don’t take chances; call your local toilet repair experts in Houston, Nick’s Plumbing.

More About Clogged Toilet Repairs on The Potty Mouth Guys Show

Nick’s Plumbing Live Video Transcription:

On today’s show, my toilet keeps running. What do you do?

Yeah,

I’m John Eccles. Richard Saad. We are talking today about my toilet keeps running. How do we repair that toilet and toilet repair, right? That’s right. That’s what we’re talking about. So what do you do if your toilet starts running? Go catch it. That’s a crappy joke. Literally. Oh, okay. Well now that we’re on the toilet subject here, so let’s tell people what, what is it that makes a toilet run? Why would it be running? What are the parts that are going out the side, right legs besides its legs had to, right. What else is there that are going to, that you’re gonna make and, and what are the signs of it, right? Yeah. Yeah. These are really important question. It is one of our number one, you know, kind of call volume kind of calls. You know a lot of people. Yeah, that’s right. So why and what is gonna make a toilet run?

Let me tell you. Tell me. Um, one would be usage, right? Right. So the more you use a commode, obviously the more things are going to wear down. Just normal wear and tear. Uh, we normally see commercial establishments go through their stuff a little bit more because obviously there’s more people going in and out. Just like at your home, you’ve probably maybe done a repair on one bathroom that you and all the guests normally use versus a bathroom that no one ever uses. Obviously the toilet’s going to get a repair probably before the other one sang is the more I use the toilet, the more apt that is to break. It is true that if you use it, you lose it.

The term that’s true you guys, the more you use, the more apt it is to fail more quicker. Yeah. So, and another thing that it can be is we’ve got a brace of water and Houston and we’re using a new product called chloramines and everybody thinks we’re still on a chlorine system. That’s the disinfectant process that they’re putting in our water to keep us safe. Right. Which is basically a poison. Uh, they’ve, they’ve changed this, I don’t know, I think about 10 years ago, something like that. And now we’re using chloramines chloramines abrasive. It has ammonia in it. So it is eating rubber more than ever at this point. So our toilets are mostly made of of the inner guts, let’s call it a, are mostly made of plastic and rubber. Yeah. Well the rubbers being eaten. Yeah. Right. Absolutely. So when you’re walking by a bathroom, or especially if it’s in the master bathroom and you hearing, you’re hearing a hissing sound, that means water’s leaking, leaking through that fill valve, um, typically or the flappers letting it get through there and it’s going into the bowl, which is then turning on the fill valve.

Right? Right. So what do you do? There’s a few things that you can do yourself before you call somebody like us, right? Absolutely. Make sure if you hear it hissing, you know there’s something wrong, right. What would be the next step that’s going to be the fill valve. That’s the part that’s delivering the water into your bowl and into your tank. Right? Right. Take your lid off the toilet. You can visibly see all of those parts and they’re called guts, so you can visibly see those. So make sure that the chain is not underneath your, it’s called, the technical term is actuator. People call it a flapper. That’s the part that seats on the toilet and that goes up and down to allow the water to flow into the toilet. Right? Right. I think it goes in the bowl. That’s right. That delivers the water into the tank.

So make sure that nothing has stuck underneath that flapper. Sure. And that is closing properly and seated properly, uh, to where water can’t get through. Yes. Now if that’s the case, then it could be the fill valve that’s not working properly. And there’s a lot of things that go into to place that could create an issue. And one is dirty water. You know, there’s particulates running through our water all the time and it’s got rubber pieces. So if something came from the main water supply got in there and it’s lifted it up, you can’t see that because it’s underneath some plastic pieces. Right. But all in all, if you want to try to replace those parts are typically the only two that go out and saying that those parts of very drastically it from a one piece toilet to a two piece toilet, you can go get a part that’s $10 all the way up to $400 depending on what toilet that you have.

Is it a two piece toilet or one piece toilet? And it’s typically these one piece toilets, uh, that have these more expensive fill valves, uh, in there that can get up to that $400 level. Typically, your two piece toilets don’t have that. So if you guys want to try this at home, um, there’s some great videos on youtube that show you how to unscrew and screw back in, right? Right. So if you want to, to try it, then if it fails or doesn’t fail, you succeed. Whatever it is, you need help. We’re here, right? So, I mean, there’s a lot of things that I have tried and failed and I have to call some money out. Hey, can you come, uh, get me out of this please? So we all do it. But what’s that sign that we’re running right now on our company sign failures.

The mother of success. That’s right. If you don’t try, you don’t fail. Right. But that is our profession and we still fail every now and then. So if you don’t want to try it, call us and we can do it. Now, another thing that if you’re not hearing anything, um, you can put dye in the tank. I meant to go back. I’m going to go back a little bit and tell you we can put dye in the tank. You can, yeah. Koolaid. So if you made whatever she have a high water bill, if you have a high water bill that that can be a notice of, of a tool that running or something going on, you know, rather than having a leak in the house. Sometimes your tool, it’s running and you won’t even know it. Right? And you can do it as simple as putting what?

Food coloring, right? Food, coloring up the food. Coloring Koolaid. Yeah, Koolaid. Right. That’s a little Gatorade. If you see that water transferred down from, obviously you’re putting the coloring into the tank. If you see the transferred down into the bowl, then you know that there’s a leak somewhere. Something’s not selling the way it should be or that there’s an issue. Now at toilet running, I can verify Billy tell you that it can add another hundred dollars or better to your water bill a month. Oh yeah. So if you see a big jump in your water bill, your first place to go to is your toilets and try it. You start there and then look elsewhere. But at toilet can easily add $100 a month. So you think we’re expensive but the toilet run for a month and that will get expensive. Oh yeah, absolutely. It’s just, and it’s wasteful, right?

It’s not very conservative when it comes to conserving water. It’s wasting water and waste and water. Yeah, it is drinkable water. Yeah, it is the water that eventually you’re going to drink it. That’s exactly right. So any questions around that? John and I are here for you. So let’s talk about the toilet repair. We kinda got into that a little bit. Right. So how would we repair that toilet and what would we do? So they make complete rebuild kits all the way up to single components. Typically what we like to do is the age of those components tend to be the same. Yeah. So we tend to like to replace, even though the component is still good, it’s cheap enough to go ahead and put that new part in there and it’s easy enough to put the new part in there. So when we go do a complete toilet, that’s called a complete toilet rebuild.

And that’s typically what we will do. But you have an option to actually just replace one component at a time. Yep. Um, and we do a lot of that as well. It’s whatever fits your needs, whatever you want to do. Uh, and again, as a homeowner, you can do a full replacement yourself or you can replace that one component. Yeah. Right. Absolutely. That’s where if you get in trouble, we’re only a phone call away. That’s exactly right. I’ve had a couple of those. Yes. It happens after, you know, it seems simple enough. And like you said, you know, people, um, especially cause it’s visible, right? They want to try to do it themselves and uh, depending on your skill level, right? If you’re a mechanical inclined person, you could probably tackle it pretty easily. If you’re not, then if you try it and you mess up, it’s okay.

Like Richard saying as part of life or if you just feel like you don’t want to tackle it at all, deal with it, give us a call, we’ll help you out. Professional Shower Repair in Houston

As important as the role that the shower plays in our daily life, it’s surprising that more things can’t go wrong with it. When was the last time you couldn’t use your shower because it was “broken”? Your shower is one of the few truly “maintenance-free” appliances in your home.

Nick’s Plumbing Service offers repairs on all types of shower faucets, drains and other plumbing fixtures. Nick’s Plumbing has been performing shower repair in Houston services since 1979. Our fleet of fully stocked trucks are ready to arrive at your home, with the parts we need to complete our work in a manner that takes your time into consideration.

At Nick’s Plumbing Service, we carry a wide array of new shower heads and bathtub and shower combination fixtures should you need a replacement. Are you not quite sure which type of service you need today? Call Nick’s Plumbing Service and schedule a visit from one of our plumbing techs to discuss your shower repair in Houston issue, who can provide a cost evaluation.

Professional Clogged Shower Repair in Houston

One of the most common calls for shower repair in Houston is a clogged drain. Discovering a slow draining shower is a horrible way to start the day. No one enjoys standing ankle-deep in lukewarm shampoo and soap residue. Fortunately, the worst-case scenarios of a shower repair are usually limited to either a leaky faucet or a clogged drain.

Clogged shower drains occur for basically one reason. Hair collects beneath the drain cover, which then attracts all the soapy residue and other particles as the shower drains. This primordial ooze also contains bacteria, so eventually…it’s going to start to stink. A splash of bleach will kill any odors temporarily; but nature being a cruel mistress, the bacteria will return. Along with the smell.

You should make it a point to periodically clear your shower drains by removing the shower drain cover (almost universally attached with a single Phillips head screw), and simply pulling out any visible hair and other debris. Using a snake or an even a coat hanger to pull additional hair and whatnot from further down in the drain can help to alleviate the immediate problem of your clogged shower repair in Houston.

Chemical drain cleaners are rarely effective for clogged shower drains. These types of drain cleaners are highly corrosive. They clear your clog by chemically dissolving the hair and other debris…imagine the effect that has on your shower drain pipes. They are messy, costly, and even if they provide a temporary solution to a clogged shower repair in Houston, they are only masking what could be a larger, costlier problem.

Our trained, licensed and background-checked staff of plumbing technicians are experts in clearing clogged shower drains. We use state of the art high-definition video cameras to inspect your drains and sewer lines, and then employ either old-fashioned snaking or modern hydro-jetting, where high-pressure water jets are used to completely clear your drain and sewer pipes.

Professional Steam Shower Repair in Houston

WHAT IS A STEAM SHOWER?

Steam showers are tiled and enclosed shower stalls that use an electric generator to pump steam into the stall. The enclosure allows the steam to stay inside the shower stall, providing all the health and relaxation benefits of a sauna at the gym, without having to share it with six strangers.

IS A STEAM SHOWER THE SAME AS A SAUNA?

No. The difference between the two breaks down like this; a sauna uses low humidity and high heat (up to two-hundred degrees) and is generally a wood construction. Steam showers use high humidity and lower temperatures (between one-hundred and one-hundred-twenty degrees) and will look more like a standard shower stall with tile and glass doors.

The significant difference between the two is; you’re going to sweat more in a sauna, but since the body recognizes the wet steam as being hotter than it is, a steam shower will feel as hot as a sauna.

WHAT CAN GO WRONG WITH MY STEAM SHOWER?

Most problems that require a steam shower repair in Houston are centered around the steam generator unit. If your steam shower is not producing any steam at all, the first thing you want to check is the circuit breaker for the generator. If everything checks out OK with the power supply to the steam generator, and you still are not getting steam, make sure that the water supply inlet valves are open. If the valves are open, and still isn’t steam in your shower, you may have a faulty heating element in your steam generator.

Another common issue that calls for steam shower repair in Houston is lowered steam pressure, which is often the result of faulty seals. There are several seals within a steam generator assembly, from the supply lines and drain lines to the steam outlet pipes. Check the fittings going into and coming out of the steam generator unit, and if there’s evidence of a leak, call Nick’s Plumbing Service to schedule an appointment to inspect your steam shower.

Professional Plumbing Inspections in Houston

Normal wear and tear, as well as the simple settling of your house, can wreak havoc on your pipes and other plumbing fixtures. As rust and corrosion settle into older, galvanized pipes, it can lead to discolored water and strange smells from your faucets. Built-up grease, hair, and other dirt in your pipes will coagulate and make it difficult for wastewater to drain properly out of your home. Regular plumbing inspections can bring attention to these issues before they have a chance to do any real damage to your property.

Plumbing inspections are an essential part of your home’s regular maintenance plan. In this article, we’re going to take you through the process of a plumbing inspection, tell you who can perform plumbing inspections, and give you a rough idea of what a plumbing inspection may cost.

Many homeowners resist having a plumbing inspection performed, as they may feel that it is a waste of money, or worse that it may reveal expensive repairs that need to be made. It may not seem like much, but a single dripping faucet can waste several gallons of water every day, resulting in higher than average water bills.

Did you know that a single broken pipe in a wall or ceiling can cause tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of damage in just minutes? It won’t just be your pipes that need replacement, but also your rugs, wood floors, drywall, and priceless mementos.

What is a Plumbing Inspection?

A professional plumbing inspection is a thorough review of your home’s plumbing to investigate its current condition. Below you will find a list of what should be examined during a proper plumbing inspection:

 – Pipes Inside Home

 – Pipes Outside Home

 – Water Heaters

 – Toilets

 – Bathtubs

 – Showers

 – Sinks

 – Faucets

Why are Plumbing Inspections Important?

Protect Your Home

Even a minor plumbing problem can cause severe damage to your home’s structure and property. It’s these small issues that are most difficult to locate with the untrained eye and, if overlooked, can quickly become a much more significant concern over time. Having a plumbing inspection performed by an experienced plumber can help prevent a plumbing nightmare from occurring.

Save You Money

The damage that can occur from even the smallest of leaks can be costly to repair. Often, it’s not only the home structure that gets damaged but personal property like pictures and keepsakes as well. The small investment required to have a plumbing inspection performed is far less than what the repair and replacement of your drywall, floors, and ceilings could cost.

Peace Of Mind

It can be scary when a homeowner first locates a leak and wonders where it’s coming from, not to mention the damage it may have caused. Don’t let leaks get the upper hand and make sure they’re located and repaired quickly by scheduling a routine plumbing inspection. It’s a great comfort for a homeowner to have the peace of mind knowing that their home’s plumbing system is safe and in proper working order.

How Often Should Plumbing Be Inspected?

Plumbing companies commonly suggest that you have a plumbing inspection conducted in your home at least every two years. If your home is older than forty years, and you’ve never had the plumbing replaced, we recommend annual plumbing inspections.

Who Can Inspect My Plumbing?

A plumbing inspection should only be performed by a professional plumbing company with experienced and licensed plumbers. Do some online research about the plumbing company you’re considering and look at their reviews. You can learn a lot about local plumbing companies and their credibility by reading their reviews on sites like Google, Yelp, and Facebook.

How Much Does a Plumbing Inspection Cost?

Angi.com says a plumbing inspection typically ranges from $100 to $1,375, with an average of $575. At Nick’s Plumbing & Air Conditioning, our licensed plumbers conduct thorough home plumbing inspections for just $279 under our VIP HVAC & Plumbing Maintenance Plan.

Professional Garbage Disposal Repair in Houston

Your home’s garbage disposal is a relatively simple machine. A motor circulates a set of rotating blades inside of an enclosure beneath your kitchen sink, which grinds food and other waste material placed into your sink drain. Before calling the garbage disposal repair in Houston experts at Nick’s Plumbing Service, read this information page to determine if you need a service call.

Garbage disposals have their own collection of problems and issues that a homeowner may encounter. If you notice that your kitchen sink drain is backing up, and you suspect your disposal is the culprit, NEVER put your hand into the drain or the disposal’s grinding chamber.

A possible simple fix to what appears to be a broken garbage disposal is to check to see if the unit has overheated (due to overuse/overfilling) and the internal circuit breaker has tripped. Usually, you can check under the disposal and locate a (typically red) reset button. If nothing changes after attempting the reset, check the circuit breaker for your disposal in your circuit box.

If your disposal is humming but is not grinding the material in the drain, it could be jammed. Again, DO NOT put your hand into the disposal chamber. You may very well loosen what has caused the unit to jam, and in the process, expose yourself to injury when the jam is dislodged, and the blades begin to rotate again.

Leaking garbage disposals usually aren’t caused by the unit itself, as they are self-contained, but the pipes connected to the disposal can develop leaks and will need attention from a garbage disposal repair in Houston technician.

Seeing as how the garbage disposal is installed on the busiest sink in the home (the kitchen), and the amount of use that it gets, eventually, even the best disposal units will wear out. Replacing a garbage disposal is a job best left to the experienced, licensed garbage disposal repair in Houston experts of Nick’s Plumbing Service.

What are some signs I need to replace my garbage disposal unit?

If you have a unit that runs quietly and is working efficiently, as it chews up quickly what you feed it, then it’s in good shape. Yet, if it’s turned on and not grinding or there is a horrible smell coming from the sink, you might have a problem.

It’s not making any noise, but it’s turned on.

First and foremost, DO NOT put your hands into the garbage disposal unit to check if the blades are moving. This goes without saying at all times. But especially if you’re trying to troubleshoot a problem. We would advise that you make sure the unit is plugged in. If it is plugged in, hit the reset button, which is most often found at the bottom of the unit and red. It should be popped out-press it.

If that does not get things moving, take a look at your circuit breaker and make sure it hasn’t tripped. If it’s turned off in the electrical service panel. If the breaker has not tripped and the reset button has not popped out, then the unit itself could be damaged altogether. In that case, we recommend that you replace your garbage disposal unit with a new one. Unless you are a trained electrician and are willing to take the unit apart to find the problem?

Leaking Garbage Disposal

Suppose water or any other liquid is leaking from your garbage disposal unit. In that case, it could signal an easy or far more severe repair. The first place to check for a leak would be at the sink’s drain hole, also known as the sink flange. In that case, it can either be that the rings need to be tightened or that the plumber’s putty was not of the highest quality and needs to be reapplied.

A more complicated situation might arise when the garbage disposal unit gets a hole in the actual case. This can happen when a sharp object gets stuck in there, such as a knife or a sharp bone. Cracks and holes are quite common in older garbage disposals.

Leaks can also happen at the discharge drainpipe and dishwasher connection. The dishwasher connection may need the clamp tightened. In the case of the drainpipe, the bolts might just need to be tightened.

Yet with these types of bolt tightenings and washer leaks, we recommend that you contact a professional such as Nick’s Plumbing Service. We have the correct tools to perform the task and ensure they’re done accurately.

Smelly Garbage Disposal

A smelly or foul odor emanating from the garbage disposal that won’t go away is a sign it’s time to replace your disposal unit. As the part of your garbage disposal unit wear out, the blades get increasingly duller. As that happens, more and more food gets trapped, and it starts to decompose in the unit. The smell wasn’t too bad at first, and slices of lemon would make it go away at first. Eventually, there wasn’t enough lemon at the grocery store to mask that smell, and you started noticing it every time you came back into the home. This isn’t a case of simply replacing parts of the garbage disposal unit. You need to replace your unit altogether. That’s where Nick’s Plumbing Service can help. Give us a call, and we can help get you fitted with a new garbage disposal unit.

Garbage Disposal Unit is Jammed

If your garbage disposal unit has been making a mild humming noise instead of its usual healthy roar when it eats your food, something might be blocked. Un-jamming, a garbage disposal unit, is something that depends on the brand that you own. Each one has a unique off function when they’re stuck to the point of stalling the motor. Today’s garbage disposal units are designed so that anyone can remove the blockage safely. Underneath the unit is located a small slot, and each one comes equipped with a tiny wrench to match it. If you’ve lost the wrench that came with the unit, call the store where you bought it, they should sell replacement wrench for as little as $3-$5. You can also you an Allen wrench as well on certain brands of garbage disposal units.

Using the garbage disposal wrench, insert it through the drain hole until it hits the bottom of the disposal. Then turn it slightly so that it locks on to the shredder plate of the unit. Turn the wrench back and forth so that it locks on to the shredder plate of the unit. Once the shredder plate starts rotating freely, remove the wrench from the disposal unit. Keep some cold water running and CAREFULLY turn on the disposal unit to wash away debris left in the disposal unit.

Garbage Disposal Unit is Draining Slowly

If you’ve given your disposal plenty of time to drain and still try to rid itself of the food, liquid, and debris, it’s safe to say that it’s plugged. First and foremost, as previously stated, DO NOT put your hands down inside the unit to see if something is stuck around the blades. Those blades are incredibly sharp and could do irreparable damage to your fingers and hand. Make sure everything is turned off before you ever stick your hand down into a garbage disposal unit.

Instead, we recommend either a commercial drain cleaner or vinegar and baking soda to dislodge the blockage in your pipes. If that doesn’t work, then give us a call at Nick’s Plumbing Service. We know how to properly remove the bolts, disconnect the drain trap, and look for any obstructions or clogs. Our trained plumbers will have the proper equipment on hand to clear the blockage with the most modern and useful tools.

List of Items You Should Never Put Down a Garbage Disposal:

  • Coffee Grinds
  • Beans
  • Onion Skins
  • Corn Husks
  • Bones
  • Flower Clippings
  • Popcorn Kernels
  • Egg Shells
  • Celery
  • Fruit Pits
  • Metals
  • Rice
  • Rutabaga Peels
  • Cooking Oils
  • Pasta
  • Potato Peels
  • Artichokes
  • Rutabaga Peels

  • Shrimp Shells
  • Cooking Grease

What to do When You Have Garbage Disposal Problems

If your garbage disposal breaks or jams, there are a few things you may want to check out before calling a Houston plumber. If the garbage disposal is not making its running sound, it could be an electrical problem. Make sure that the unit is plugged in and the switch that powers the unit is on. Check to see the circuit breaker has not tripped, and then press the reset button on the very bottom of the garbage disposal unit. If the garbage disposal still will not operate it is likely beyond repair.

It is very important that you have a good quality garbage disposal. A garbage disposal main purpose is handling food waste. If your garbage disposal has been nothing but headaches to deal with, then you should consider upgrading to a better model. Garbage disposals have different horse powers, and it can be difficult to discern which model is right for your home. There are so many models to choose from, and the plumber experts from Nick’s Plumbing Service can offer the best advice for your particular needs.

Nick’s Plumbing Live Video Transcription:

On today’s show, it’s all about garbage disposal repair in Houston and garbage disposal replacement in Houston,

John Richard Saad, back for another week, another episode. Today we’re going to be talking about the garbage disposal. That chewy machine that’s supposed to take all my stuff. Take the leftovers from the kitchen sink and just eat it, throw it in there, scraping. Before we get too big into this, anytime we talk about garbage disposals, me and Richard always likes to talk about proper use because a lot of times it is misused. And we’ve, we’ve talked about this on several shows and we’re going to again the day because we are talking about garbage disposal is our topic. And uh, so what are some things that we absolutely do not want to put down the garbage disposal, chicken bones, no chicken bones, chicken bone, things that are stringing stringy salaries of vegetables that stringy potato pills have skin. Oh yeah. Think about things that stick together whenever you’re pilling Oh, pasta.

Pasta is a bad one. Ooh, that’s a bad one. Can you imagine what. Think about this pasta on your dish, right? And Rice, rice to it’s comes in a small little, what do you call it again? A piece of rice. There we go and it’s small and you put water and heat it up and it, and it gets bigger. Well that’s what it does in your pipes. And then it coagulates together. That’s the word on our show that everybody loves. I love that word because it’s true. It starts packing in tooling. That’s right. And it stops up the pipes and it sorts of. The disposal cause all sorts of problems for you. Um, you want to put regular waist down there, you know, there’s things that tend to stick together. They’re stringy of what it all cost. And of course I know, I think it goes without saying that you don’t put items that shouldn’t go down in the kitchen sink and people don’t know people well, they actually put a lot more than what I think we think.

But garbage disposal. You’re supposed to scrape a highly recommend scraping off in the Trashcan, renting off in the sink and getting the particulates into the garbage disposal, not the whole chicken. That’s right. Okay. So now let’s dive in to the repair replacement of garbage disposals. So let’s start off with types. So there’s a tons of types. We’re only going to talk about the most famous three, right, because they come in three different sizes and that’s the types they are. And that’s the ones that we’re going to talk about. Right? They have a one third we don’t talk about because it’s, I noticed his garbage disposal and it is garbage. It’s a builder’s gray, which really garbage. It is. It’s, it’s not worth buying. It’s worse than builders maybe, but they do use. Yeah, that’s what they use because it’s cheap. We’re going to talk about a half horsepower, three quarter horsepower, one horsepower disposal.

Um, obviously each one’s more powerful. Half three quarter or one half horsepower is probably the most popular. I would think. A lot of people upgrade from their builder’s grade to that. And um, I tend to stick with it. The biggest differences in those, what are they? Half a horsepower tends to be steel, right? You usually don’t get stainless steel on them. That’s try. Your teeth are not going to be the same as, let’s say, the one horsepower. Absolutely. And they’re just made cheaper. Yeah. That’s all it is. The guts on the inside the motors cheaper. Everything is cheaper than half horsepower. That’s right. Once we start moving up to the three quarter horsepower, you’re getting into multiple options. That’s right. You’ll be able to get stainless steel parts, stainless steel grinders. Um, you can still kind of get a cheaper one though. That does have steel parts, right?

The motors are more strong. The motors are built better. Grind chambers, a little bigger. Grind Chamber is bigger. Then you go to the one horsepower and typically the one horse power all comes with stainless, has everything in it is stainless steels and motor is top of the class in garbage disposal motors. It’s quiet, quiet. It’s got auto reversing. It helps from getting it stuck. Yeah. Jam Jam sensors. It’s got everything. It’s like the Ferrari. Yeah, that’s right. Absolutely. It’s just like everything else in the world, right? The, the, the bigger and better that you go, the more bells and whistles you’re going to get. So you go from a pretty basic model to one that has all sorts of things that help it maintain itself. Correct. And that’s why the warranties, right? That’s one that we didn’t touch on or a lot different than half horsepower.

Consider the two, three quarter horsepower because with the three year your creme de la Creme Ferrari one horsepower comes with a seven year warranty. Big Difference. Yeah. They absolutely believe in that product. So I mean that’s a, you know, double the middle and through over three times, you know, the beginner one now. Now in saying that costs are gonna go. Oh come on. Yeah, a lot higher for the Ferrari then what it is for the half horsepower of absolutely, you know, but in the middle, which is the three quarter horsepower horsepowers, they make about four different styles of where the material is different in there. Yeah. And they’re. And they’re great. That’s what I put into my house three quarter and I went with the all stainless steel. I am not the guy that’s going to put a lot down my sink, right? Because I know better.

I just don’t. But if I’m an average person that, okay, I’m sticking some things down the sink. You need to go with a three quarter and I shove everything under the sink. You. Yeah, I tried to do my son, but he climbed out of everything I can down there and he made a bad grade. I shove all sorts of things. I’m really bad about it. I really am. Um, but, so, so in saying that, what happens, what can happen when you shut bunch of food down the garbage disposal that you shouldn’t be a, it’s going to do that word. What’s that word? Coagulate. Yeah. Into the pipe and it’s going to stop it up. It’s going to a good. Yeah, it’s good. Um, it’s gonna push that down and then a lot of times it gets stuck somewhere between there and the city main. Um, and it’s going to create problems, you know, a lot of times it can also do the same thing inside of the disposal and jam it up.

So it’s not going to spend what leads us into what kind of issues do we run in and disposals. Yeah. So let’s talk about that a little bit more and let’s just say it does stop working and I put too much food and it quit working or let’s say I didn’t put any food in it and it quit working. What do you do? Oh, okay. So a couple of different things. Um, when you say it quit working, we get a couple of different items. Is it like you flipped switch and nothing happens? Yeah. Let’s just say nothing happens. Nothing happens. First thing you want to do, you want to eliminate, okay, is an electrical problem, right? Is a switch actually working? If it is, um, and this is actually pretty interesting, I had this phone call, right? We, we talk about every week we say, hey, call us if you did a problem.

And this happened yesterday. Lady calls in and says, Hey, I need someone to come out my disposal. Flip switched. Nothing happens. I said, well, low before book a call, let’s try something very simple. There’s a reset button directly on the bottom, itty bitty red reset button. Just almost like you’re GFC. I button. I said, have you tried to push nice. I didn’t even know that was there. So she went down that he sees it. She pushed it and I heard her immediately turn it mean here at spinning. She was. I never knew that was there. What happened? I said, well, sometimes you know, if something happens with the power and it trips it for whatever reason and you just got to reset it and a lot of times that fixes the problem whenever you flip it and there’s nothing happening. Nine Times out of 10 you do that.

Everything will be back up and running and guess what? We saved you money. I tried. Yeah, we didn’t have to send anybody out. Saved you money. She didn’t have to wait on our guy who. I mean she saved some time, some money, so she was very happy and the that goes into the next thing. What have you turned it on and all you hear is humming. Well, same thing, right where that button is underneath that garbage disposal, you’re going to have an allen wrench. I’m fitting underneath there that you can put the key in and you start twisting it back and forth and that’ll get it loosened up. Those teeth. Sometimes we’ll get stuck, get it loosened up, hit the button again, turn the switch on or because that’s all that means is that the disposal was jammed up to get jammed up. I got a question for you.

What if I don’t have an allen wrench now? Whew. That’s a problem. Not for me though. So go to your garage or go to your cabinet. You get a broom up so you get this broom. Get the handle of the broom, put it in your sink and start turning the teeth on the disposal and make sure they’re freed up backwards and forwards. Then go underneath, go ahead and hit the button again and then hit the switch. Now, if that doesn’t work, you got problems, problems. Then it comes in the replacement time. Yeah, that means your motors gone. Yeah, and it isn’t coming back on. At that point you probably need to call us or is going to be the best option. And again, that’s after you check and make sure the power is working. Yeah. So again, yeah. Yeah. Your motors gone. So that comes into the replacement side of I need a new one.

And the options. You’ve got a bunch of options out there. You guys on, on what to get now? I would say most homes have the half horsepower. Yeah. I went with the three quarter. What do you have? I have a half. Okay. I have, I went with a three quarter stainless and it is 12 years old and I have no problems with it. That normally lasts quite a quite a good time. I should get 20 plus years but I’m not putting anything down in any way but I turned it on all the time so I’m using it all the time. But I am not. I’m, I’m again scraping off and the trash can. I’m renting off in a sink. Your bear responsible and I don’t know what that means but I’m trying, let’s put it that way. It might dispose all is a 12 years old and it’s still going strong and it should.

I don’t, I don’t. I mean probably go 20, 30 years. I don’t know, you know, the only other time that will do the other thing that we see, you know those badger or I’m sorry, the half horsepower disposals, the non stainless steel, they rust. Yeah, they rust. That’s going to be the other thing. After you use it long enough, it will eventually rust out and start to leak and that’s another call that we get frequently is that hey, if I’ve ever sold was leaking. No. Once we eliminate, if it was installed improperly and if the. If it’s an older disposal, normally it’s rusted out and at that point you’re going to be making a choice between which one do you want. Yeah, that’s right. Yeah. Yeah. And I’m sorry. Oh, I was going to say solutions, right. So today shows about those solutions and if you scrape off in the trash put minimum down that disposal.

It’s gonna last half horsepower is not going to last. It’s got steel parts. Eventually it will rust out, right? It might still work, but it’s going to reduce down and start licking thinking, oh yeah. And it’s going to start leaking underneath the cabinet and you may or may not notice that. And you know, we’ve seen them as little as five years rust out. We’ve seen them as much as 10 years. Yeah. Um, and, and sometimes depending on your water quality, they’re not rusting out as quick as it within the first 10 years. Now, stainless steel, mine’s 12 years old, it still looks like today. I put it in. You can look at the teeth, you can look at everything around it and it still looks brand new. So as long as that motor goes, it’s going to last the dragon. It’s not going to rust out. Now, one horsepower, if you’re actually a connoisseur of cooking, let’s call it right.

You like to cook a bunch and you are putting a bunch of things down that sink that one horsepower is for you. It can take it and it will grind it and it will keep grinding. And it’ll last. They’re great units. They’re expensive. And you know, I’m calling it expensive, but that’s all relative, right? I mean, you’re going to get 20 plus years out of the deal. I mean, what does that really mean? A dollar a month. So really it’s not expensive, but up front they’re going to cost you a lot more, but that truly is the Ferrari and that one there is going to last and it will take bones. I wouldn’t highlight, I wouldn’t recommend though and ribs in there, but I’m talking normal chicken poems. Uh, I wouldn’t throw cal bones, let’s call it an air either. So, but uh, that one’s going to last and it’s a great unit and it chops up things very fine. So as long as you’re not putting pasta down there a typically you’ll stay away from the kitchen sink stoppages tube because it chops it up so fine before it delivers it into your piping structure.

That’s all we got. This sweet man. We really appreciate it. Nothing to add. We’re done. Yeah. Hope you learned something today. And if not, call us John’s here to help you at drive all the time. Keep grinding. Houston. I try. I’m here to help too, by the way.

Water faucet repair issues in a home are one of the most common plumbing problems that often goes unaddressed. Dripping or leaking faucets not only cost you money over time in wasted water, but they are also likely to go unnoticed…until it’s 3:00 in the morning, and that constant ‘drip-drip-drip’ has kept you awake for the last 5 hours.

Leaky faucets are usually caused by old and worn-out washers that breakdown and allow water to pass through them. Hard-to-turn faucet controls are caused by a build-up of sediment and hard water deposits in the faucet cartridge.

A water faucet leak is usually easy to detect and diagnose. Generally, if you see water dripping from a faucet that you have turned off, it’s a safe bet you have a faucet leak. Faucet leaks have different causes and can appear in other places than the spout. Checking the base of the faucet for leaks can be accomplished by simply using a paper towel to wipe off any excess water, turn the faucet on and look for water to appear around the base.

Faucet leaks from beneath the sink are the hardest to detect, simply because people don’t look under their sinks very often. If you do detect a leak under your faucet, it needs to be dealt with right away to avoid causing damage to your walls, floors and vanities.

If you have a leak underneath your sink; and can check that it is not caused by a leak in the “flex-lines” or the drainpipe, chances are you may need a faucet repair in Houston.

A leaky faucet can be a simple repair if you’re mechanically inclined with a couple of standard household tools and a faucet repair kit. But If you’re not up to the task, or simply too busy to do-it-yourself, call Nick’s Plumbing Service today for all your kitchen and bathroom faucet repair needs.

HOW MANY TYPES OF FAUCETS ARE THERE?

When it comes to replacing leaky faucets around the house, four basic types are available;

Compression Faucet: have been around the longest and are the least expensive faucet to install. The operation is simple; as you turn the handles (there will be two), a washer that closes off water to the tap is moved to allow for flow. Eventually, these washers will wear out, your taps will begin to drip, and the washers will require replacement.

Cartridge Faucet: usually found in bathrooms as a two-handle appliance (one for hot, one for cold, and each requiring a separate cartridge) that blends the two sources into one faucet spout. The cartridge is almost always made of plastic and secured by a single nut and is the part that needs the most frequent attention. If you feel the base of the faucet “pumping” as if something was moving up and down beneath it, you have a cartridge faucet.

Ball Faucet: a washer-less faucet that uses a single handle to open and close the tap, as well as adjust the hot-cold mixture. The flow of water is controlled by a metal ball contained in the faucet body that moves as the faucet handle is operated. Ball faucets are the most commonly installed type for kitchens and utility sinks.

Ceramic Disc Faucet: uses two ceramic discs, one fixed and one that moves that move against each other and either allows water to pass or blocks it entirely. Disc faucets are generally difficult to wear out, as their ceramic disc design can resist the corrosive elements of water, unlike their rubber predecessors.

While there may only be four types of faucets, there are many manufacturers of faucets making hundreds of variations of each type. The function of each type of faucet remains the same, even if the form is altered between brands and models. The cheapest cartridge faucet and the most expensive cartridge faucet offer the same performance; the cost is in the aesthetics of the faucet.

Have a Leaky or Dripping Faucet?

It can be very frustrating dealing with a leaky or dripping faucet in Houston, TX. Do you ever notice a dripping sound in your home? A dripping water sound can come from many sources and most commonly from a leaky faucet. A drip…drip…drip sound can also cost you money every month of your water bill. You never know the cause of the drip or leak. It simply could be a worn out faucet component, broken or cracked pipe. Faucets are constantly used from the kitchen to the bathroom, and from time to time they need repair.

The universal first sign of wear-and-tear in your faucets will start with a drip and proceed to drool from the tap. Worn-out cartridges can begin to leak, pushing water out through the base of the faucet, as will a worn-out ball in a ball-type fixture. If your faucet is “spitting” the water out, as opposed to a smooth, steady flow; you probably have a clogged aerator in your tap.

SIGNS THAT YOU NEED LEAKY FAUCET REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT

Faucets that don’t work at all are a sign that you need a faucet repair or replacement service call. Dead faucets are often rusted and seized into place and are unlikely to be able to be repaired. Leaky Faucet Repair and Replacement in Houston

Nick’s Plumbing Live Video Transcription:

On today’s show, it’s all about leaky faucet repair and replacement in Houston.

I’m Richard Saad, John Eccles. So today we’re talking about a plumbing problem that can cost you a ton of money over time. Literally, what are we talking about today? Sounds like you might be talking about faucet repairs. That’s exactly what we’re talking about. You guys can keep you up at night. Sometimes you hear it going, drip, drip. Oh yeah. Hey, I’ve had it drip, that keeps you awake. Pretty easy to repair. Pretty cheap to repair. But that’s debatable, right? I mean certain people are going to be like, ah, a hundred bucks, what? You’re ripping me off and the parts 100 bucks, that’s the next problem. It’s all relative and it’s all relative, isn’t it? So leaky faucet repair and replacements is on the show today. And it’s funny cause you know, a faucet is simply a shutoff valve for your water supply, but there’s tons of variations of different kinds.

But really your standard faucet is pretty, you know, on the same lines of the same makeup on the inside. They have stems. Yeah. Some have seats. Yup. Washers, whether they’re rubber or ceramic. Yeah. Depends. All right. And again, nothing lasts forever, including you. Everything gives out over time and water will get all of us. Oh yeah, absolutely. Any part, your body, whatever it is. I agree. You know? So in other words, it’s just shut off valve. Correct. And if you guys really think about this at home, it’s a way to deliver water. That’s all it is in the water comes off and on and then back off. Right. That’s all right. When you demand it. So when this faucet is not working properly, what’s the end result of that? What can it do? What does it create? Right? If you leave it dripping and especially, oh yeah.

Well I’m asking you those questions but I got the answer cause I’m looking for something specific and what what that is is I can channel that faucet to where we cannot repair it. Right. Which means you’re going to have to replace that Faucet. So you don’t want to let that drip for a lengthy period of time. Right. You want to get that fixed. Now, depending on what type of faucet that you have, and it depends on make model brand is going to depend on cost of course. Right? Absolutely. So the cost of the cartridge almost said something else, right? Uh, our stim, right? They’re all going to be different.

And what else? Well, the seats in washers on the inside the pending, um, you know, and again, we’re talking about these variations of faucets and, and you know how they’re made up and as they go on, it’s just getting more and more complicated on the insides, you know, as far as mixing valves, which is a little bit outside the fossil, but still has to do with it. You know, you got all these new faucets that are feeding multiple shower heads and stuff of that nature. So we’ve got some different things, you know, how do we know if our leaky faucets in need of repair now date? Well, one, it’s dripping. Correct. Um, but I mean, so how do you know if it’s going to be needed to be repaired versus replaced? Right. Can we know that without diving into it? I think for some people, yeah.

I mean if you think about a faucet, if your house was built in 1970 faucets already, 40 something years old, and in what we have found are people still don’t want to replace their 40 something year old Boston. Right? But most of the time we can repair those. They still make parts for us to repair those. But there comes a time, is it worth doing a replacement one that’s gonna last another 40 years or do you repair? I mean that’s the question. That’s only, you can answer that, right, right. I mean you live there, you own your house. It’s a cosmetic issue. Again, it’s a way to deliver water and that’s it. It’s turning off the water and turning on the water. It’s right. That’s it. Other than that, everything else is cosmetic. If you like the way it looks, you don’t like the way it looks.

I think there’s several factors that will go into play. Whether you want to replace that or repair that. Right now we did put it in a faucet. This is probably my most expensive faucet. And this is before you and I met, this is about six years ago or so, lady individual bought a $7,000 lavatory faucet and we put it in. That’s a no brainer. If that starts to leak, you’re going to repair that. You’re trying to repair what they were the USA $7,000 lavatory faucet. I was so expensive. I think that was golden. It actually, that’s like a real goal down, but just pretty though. Um, it was more than that. Really. Yeah. Never seen anything like it since. It was interesting. Uh, so in that case, what do you do? You repair that thing for life? Yeah. Until they stopped making parts for it until they stop making parts.

That’s exactly right. I even when they do that, you still try to figure out a way to not replace it. That’s exactly right. So what would you say the average cost repair versus replace is? And again, I know that we’re operating on a variation, right? But what would you think that the average would be loaded question you guys? Because again, it all depends on parts. So some of those parts on these faucets can get to be over a thousand I’m sorry, over a hundred dollars for each part. Right. And depending on, you know, you’ve got hot and cold separate from each other. That could be $200 or better in parts. I’m going to give you an average and let’s talk about Mowen Delta price, Pfister Kohler. Most of those can be repaired from that one 50 to three 50 is what most of those could be repaired for. When you start going to the high end faucet lines, you’re looking at $500 or better and that’s typically, and that’s for repair code.

What about replacement replacement? It is all on you. Sky Is the limit. You can go buy a faucet for $7,000 $60 yeah, and up to, I mean I’ve seen one actually up to 10 rand now though. They make one more expensive than that. I would think so, yeah. But you can any anywhere between that $60 range, that 10 grand. It’s up to you what you pick. They all go in the same for us. I think those price points are absolutely on point, are they? Those are on point with probably what we see on a daily basis. And again, right repair. You know, again we were talking very middle of the road, right? Right. And then most people are going to pick your mo and price Pfister or Delta and you’re going to get a faucet between 102 or 200 yeah. Sometimes your kitchen faucets are going to be between three and 800 for one that’s going to last.

That works. That’s a heavy brass. Right? Absolutely. So in saying that, it’s up to you guys, so it’s kind of in the ball’s in your court, especially on the replacement piece. Right? We can get as high as you want, but you know, like we say every week, if you have a question about it and you’re not sure we’re a phone call away, you can call us and bend our ear and test our knowledge and see what we can point you in the right direction for what you’re needing. That’s right. And if you keep that faucet dripping, how much is that going to cost you? It’s gonna make us look cheap. Absolutely. Yeah, it really will. But if you have questions, you know, you can always take a picture of that faucet and send it in. And we’re not gonna know every faucet. I mean, there’s literally 10,000 or more faucets on the market. Yeah. And tons of different manufacturers. We’re not going to know them all, but if you want to know somewhat of a cost, you take a photo, send it to our email. We could probably get you a pretty close cost Dev within the ballpark. Within the ballpark. Yeah. Close. So again, call us. We’re here. Thank you. Thank you for watching.

Professional Bathtub Repair in Houston

Bathtubs never get enough attention. And when they do, it’s usually the negative kind of attention.

Have you ever pulled the plug on your bathtub after a nice, relaxing soak…and realize that long after your hair is dry, the water in the tub has not budged?

You double check the plunger. You maddeningly flip that little lever thingy under the faucet, but NOTHING happens!!!

What do you do now?

First, you get dressed. Then, call the bathtub repair in Houston experts at Nick’s Plumbing Service.

When your bathtub drain becomes clogged with soap and shampoo residue, hair, and other sticky particles, it’s time to call in our professional clog-busters at Nick’s. Our licensed and trained bathtub repair in Houston technicians are ready to come and assess your needs. We will help you get your home family’s bathtub situation back to normal.

Leaky bathtub faucets are not only loud and annoying, but they can also be expensive. A faucet dripping at a rate of only one drop per second can add up to 3,000 gallons of wasted water over the course of a year. That can cost you as much as $80 in additional water charges over a month. Multiply that by every sink, shower, and toilet that currently has a leak in your home. You could be wasting almost $1,000 a year with just three leaking fixtures around your house.

Let the bathtub repair in Houston experts of Nick’s Plumbing Service replace your washers and tighten up your bathtub and shower fixtures. Want new plumbing fixtures?
